Meet Best in Show and the Winners of the 2023 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Publish date: 2024-07-08

The 147th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show concluded yesterday in Queens, New York. More than 2,500 dogs from over 200 brees competed, but there can only be one “Best in Show”. This year, a very good boy name Buddy Holly (show name CH Soletrader Buddy Holly) took home the title, as well as 1st in the Hound Group.

Buddy Holly is a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen (PBGV for short), which marks him as the first in his breed to win. This follows Trumpet, 2022’s Best in Show, who became the first Bloodhound to win.

The runner-up, also known as “Reserve Best in Show”, was Rummie the Pekingese, who also won the Toy Group.

Winston the French bulldog won the Non-Sporting Group.

Cider the English Setter won the Sporting Group.

Ribbon the Australian Shepherd won the Herding Group.

Monty the Giant Schnauzer won the Working Group.

Trouble the American Staffordshire Terrier won the Terrier Group.

Truant the Border Collie won the Masters Agility Championship.

Baker the Golden Retriever (of course) won the Masters Obedience Championship.

Among all the “Best in Breed” winners, there was one whose owner revealed themselves to be a celebrity. Lepshi the Bracco Italiano won “Best in Breed”, which marks the first time this rare Italian Pointer breed was included in the show. Then, Country singer Tim McGraw posted the day after the show that he’s the proud dog dad of Lepshi!

For another pooch that’s paving the way for their breed, meet Winston, the first French Bulldog to win the National Dog Show.
